JUNIOR GOLFERS COME HOME TO NKANA
Six underprivileged Boys and Girls Dominate Hosts' Zambia's 12-Member Junior Team for 2022 Tri-Nations At Nkana Golf Club
Golf is coming home to Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe where six members of the Zambia junior national team live within a 5 Kilometer radius of the venue that will host the five-day 2022 Tri-nations Junior Championship.
Zambia's 12-member team of six boys and six girls will face Malawi and defending champions Zimbabwe at Nkana from August 22-26.
"This is an annual tournament and partly sponsored by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, Scotland to which all amateur golf federations worldwide, including the Zambia Golf Union, are affiliated," said ZGU President Christopher Mulenga.
The six out of the seven Nkana juniors in the Zambia team are all from underprivileged backgrounds within the local catchment area.
A majority of them are from the Kandabwe Township which lies right next door to the golf club.
Sixteen-year-olds Leonard Chibwe and Michael Chuma including Gilbert Chalwe, 18 are the boys who are the Nkana call-ups in the team.
The three girls from the Nkana junior programme in the team are 17-year-old's Annie Nsama, Gracious Mwenda and Bibian Ngosa.
All six are part of Nkana's junior golf development programme that began in 2015 with 150 juniors.
The six, including Nkana clubmate Amir Huamani, were also part of the Zambia team that took part in the 2022 All-Africa Junior Challenge held in Cairo, Egypt from March 28 to April 1 where they failed to qualify for the World Junior Championship after finishing outside the top three.
