There will be no mid-season Christmas break and instead, the Zambian league will now go on recess during the duration of the 2023 AFCON next month.
Traditionally, the league goes on mid-season recess from late December to the first week of January after round 17 matches at the mid-way point of the season are played.
However, exceptional circumstances have led to the rescheduling of the break.
Football Association of Zambia General Secretary Reuben Kamanga said the league would continue running for another three rounds and now go on recess after round 20 games.
"The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wishes to inform its members and stakeholders that the league will be on recess during the Africa Cup of Nations that kicks off on January 13,” FAZ said in a statement.
"Under the slightly tinkered schedule teams will have a break at Week 20 which will be on January 14."
Zambia are heading to the 2023 AFCON Cote d’Ivoire is hosting from January 14 to February 11 where they will play Congo DR on January 17,, Tanzania on January 21 and Morocco on January 24 in their preliminary stage Group F fixtures.
Previously, Zambia only experienced the AFCON in the off-season since Chipolopolo’s last tournament outing in 2015.
FAZ later switched from the March-to-December season format to the European league calendar format in 2019.
